About Trail Tricks

Almost 40 years on the bench

Suspension tuning is one of the most overlooked upgrades in off-road racing, and one of the most effective. Riders have shipped their dirt bike suspension to us at Trail Tricks Midwest for years and got back what they call the Magic Carpet Ride.
Enduro champions and A-class riders send us their forks and shocks. Share your details and the terrain you love riding most, and we design a setup that takes your riding to the next level.

How to set sag

Three measurements tell you whether your springs suit your weight and your riding. Put the bike on a stand and grab a tape measure.

1

Measure with the wheels off the ground

Put the bike on a stand. Measure from a point on the axle to a point on the rear fender.

2

Measure again with the rider on

Rider geared up, standing on the bike in a normal riding position. Take the same measurement. The difference is your rider sag.

3

Check free sag

Once rider sag is set, take the same measurement with bike weight only and no rider. That is your free, or static, sag.

Rider sag

millimetres

108 is ideal. Up to 115 stays stable in higher-speed bumps. As little as 100 can work well in super tight woods.

Free sag

millimetres, no rider
Aim for 25 to 40. Under 25 means you need a heavier spring. Over 40 means you need a lighter one.
